The research activities of the UDSMM focus on the development and characterization of functional materials for energy, electronic, electrooptical and thermal applications.
The scientific field currently covered by the three teams of the unit relates to the study and development of functional materials dedicated in particular to energy-related applications.

• Imaging up to x320 – 170°C to 350°C magnification
• Measurement of electrical conductivity at nanoscale on semiconductor samples
• Measurement of linear and non-linear dielectric properties of liquid, solid, anisotropic materials
• Measurement of impedance spectroscopy and interpretation of conduction phenomena in conductive oxides
• Design of cells for measuring electrical properties suitable for frequency ranges.
• Measurement of pyroelectric and piezoelectric coefficients, electronic noise and carrier mobility
• Measurement of thermal conductivity and heat capacity of solid or liquid samples
• Determination of melting, crystallization and glass transition temperature (from -170°C to 600°C)
• Measurement of fusion and crystallization enthalpy variation. Determination of degree of polymerization
• Measurement of optical transmittance and absorbance of solid or liquid samples
• Measurement of optical transmittance, threshold voltage and response time of electroactive systems
• Measurement of contact angles
• Determination of fluid rheological parameters: dynamic viscosity, shear rate, shear stress
• Measurement bench instrumentation, development and automation
• Development of oxide based ink and deposition of thick layers by screen printing
• Deposition of thin layers by evaporation of a solution (tournette)
• Thin layer deposition by ground-gel and DC cathode spray
• Study and construction of SOFC fuel cell symmetries
• Electrical performance measurements of SOFC battery materials
