SHERPA Platform

Platform

Description

The SHERPA technology platform is a "full-scale" driving simulator. It is used mainly for research projects such as:

1/ Prototyping of driver assistance systems
• Hardware-in-the-loop
• Software developments under Matlab Simulink, RTMaps, C++
2/ Driving behaviour and the human factor
• Analysis of driving activity in dangerous situations: pre-crash, hypovigilance, distraction, work overload, etc.
• Man-machine cooperation

It consists of:

• Peugeot 206 vehicle fully instrumented (replacement by 208 in progress)

• Bosch Rexroth 6-axis dynamic platform

• 240° front view and three rear mirrors

• SCANeR Studio Software Environment

• Specific interfacing with Matlab/Simulink and RTMaps software for ADAS prototyping

• Specific equipment: glass cockpit, instrumented steering wheel, active pedal, driver monitoring, eye tracking

This equipment is part of the RITMEA CPER AV-Lab regional platform.

Skills

Two general orientations:
- Study and modelling of driver and user behaviour;
- Design, prototyping and evaluation of advanced driver assistance systems;

A specific methodology and tools supporting the methodology

Know-how related to automated driving:
- Trajectory planning, control (longitudinal and lateral)
- Multi-level cooperation with the driver
- Haptic shared control
- “Interactive” planning
- HMI

Learning for Adaptation:
- Learning techniques
- Evolution of automation according to learning (preferences and adaptation)

System Validation:
- Stability – accuracy (mathematical evidence)
- Functional validation (numerical simulation, interactive simulation, real vehicle testing)
- Experimental validation with novice subjects (interactive simulator campaigns, real vehicle campaigns)
