Physics of Complex Systems (PSC)

Research unit - UR 4663

Description

The activities on liquid crystals and solid state physics carried out by the PSC team have reached a
national and international visibility. In our laboratory,
we study liquid crystals in confined geometries (planar
cells, homeotropic cells, twisted cells, etc.), in free
films (liquid crystal drops on glass slides) or in freely
suspended films. We are particularly interested in the
electro-optical and dielectric properties and under
illumination in the different geometries.
The work undertaken reinforces our areas of expertise:
they allow us to ensure the development of all our members, who skillfully
juggle theory and experimentation. Our interaction with the economic,
social and cultural environment is strengthened. This is also one of our
ambitions.

Expertises

Skills

The activities of the LPSC focus on two thematic axes:

Axis 1: Liquid crystals

• Study of the interface of an anisotropic liquid with a solid substrate (I. Lelidis, P. Gisse, J. Pavel, H. Pasco Logbo)
• Study of composite systems: liquid crystals / nanoparticles (C. Meyer, I. Lelidis)
• Study of different macroscopic defect textures (focal conical domains, double helices, rods,...) (C. Meyer)
• Study of bio-mimicry of myoblast fusion (H. Vasseur, J. Pavel)
• Study of the structural and vibrational properties of flavonoid nano-systems for biomedical purposes (S. Bresson, F. Bougrioua).
• Multi-loop photoactivatable and dynamic properties in liquid crystal-based membranes (F. Bougrioua,I. Tekaya)

Axis 2: Theory of complex systems

• Study of the electrical properties of granular media (R. Bouzerar, A. Tekaya, E. Chevalier)
• The influence of the depolarization field and ions on the properties of ferroelectric liquid crystal cells (I.Lelidis, B. Mettout, J. Pavel, H. Pasco Logbo, P. Gisse)
• Ferroelectric liquid crystal films. (Mettout B)
• Study of bifurcations of intracranial dynamics and hydrocephalus (R. Bouzerar, I. Tekaya)
